Blue Poison Dart Frog Pictures |
These are pictures of a little blue poison dart frog. These little guys release toxins from their skins and some tribes in South America use their toxin to layer poison on to the tips of their blowgun darts by roasting these frogs over a fire - something that the golden poison arrow frog doesn't have to go through. Luckily this blue poison dart frog didn't suffer that fate.
The photos show the vivid blue colour and black spotted detail across its small body making it stand out from its surroundings. These are also now categorised as a vulnerable species. The frogs remained very still and crouched in their glass enclosure enabling us to capture these pictures but, as the name Blue Poison Dart Frog suggests, we couldn't get too close!
